I BELIEVE ONE OF THE BEST WAYS TO SPEND TIME ON THIS PLANET, IS TO GET TO KNOW WHO WE ARE

Starting at 17 years old, my teaching experience has brought me to ask early on the basic questions of "What do I find important?" and "How do I communicate it?" regarding teaching the values of dance and movement.

WHAT DO I FIND IMPORTANT?

Researching and practicing artistic movement.

- What is artistic movement?

In my opinion, it's the most important essence at the base of contemporary dance. Using "artistic movement" as a definition, instead of "contemporary dance", I argue it frees us from stylistic preconceptions and assumptions that come with the words "contemporary" and "dance". While the words "artistic" and "movement" imply more clearly a movement-based form of art with no stylistic frame.

- Why do I find it important?

The research and practice of artistic movement confronted me with important lessons about myself, in the realm of health (mental and physical), awareness, and creativity, just to name a few.

When I focus on my body, my fast thinking brains have to change pace. Having practiced many sports, I discovered that any kind of physical activity can bring some level of insight. Nevertheless, my experience showed me that certain approaches have more impact than others.

Artistic movement focuses on the individual as a whole. The "self" as a system in relation to itself and its surrounding.

Adopting the artist mind set, the research become based on freedom and curiosity, trying to understand more what it means to be a human being.

HOW DO I COMMUNICATE IT

From Hip-hop to artistic movement and yoga, from kids to elderly, from professionals to amateurs, my goal is to dissect my knowledge in the most digestible chunks for my students, mixing challenge with fun and learning through playful exploration.

- MY PRACTICE -
"MOVE! like an artist"

"MOVE! like an artist" is the movement program I offer (classes description below).

"The Task Within" in it's full form is a 6h long practice. My goal is to accompany the participant in and out of a state where they can improvise without a task or guidance, and follow the already existing inner task.

Taking some of the most important elements a part forming "The Task Within", we obtain the more standard length classes (1:00/1:30h)

"THE TASK WITHIN"

PREPARATION
EXPLORATION

TRAIN! like a dancer

PRACTICE! like a yogi

PRACTICE! yoga for men*

DANCE! like no one's watching

PERFORM! like you have no fear

CONCLUSION

MEDITATE! like a guru

The practice "The Task Within" revolves around the question of how to bring the physical, mental, and

emotional state in a synergetic flow, to systematically access our deepest creative potential.

Time, focus, and honesty are the three most important pillars. By continuous practice in the safest

environment needed, any art professional or passionate can develop a more insightful honest focus

on an object of observation throughout an extended period of time. Allowing for deeper inner clarity,

awareness, and a renovated sense of artistic purpose.

The practice is divided into three phases:

Phase 1) PREPARATION

Phase 2) EXPLORATION

Phase 3) CONCLUSION

This practice sees its beginning development and inspiration in the work “RE-COVER". A 5-hour long

improvisation performance developed with the choreographer Edan Gorlicki as the artistic director. Subsequently

my interest in this work led me to integrate it more thoroughly in my daily life and artistic practice. With this

workshop I intend to share the value and discoveries I made, showing to everyone interested the enormous self discovery potential

of creative free movement flow. In a period where funding for the arts are being cut again, the question of
what do we need art for, especially in difficult times, is an ever more pressing topic.
